After getting a few calls from folks asking how to mount the sling to their musket, we decided to create a photo tutorial showing you how to do it. To take the photos, I enlisted the help of the illustrious Paulie Garatoni to act as a model. In the photos below he is mounting one of our standard slings to a Ship's Carbine.

First step is to orient the sling to the musket. The half with the buckle goes on the triggerguard end of the musket so that the free end of the strap points towards the butt. |

2nd step is to put the end of the sling through the sling swivel. insert it from the butt end, with the flesh side up so the installed sling will have the skin side out when you are done. |

Third step On the end of the sling, you will see a total of eight holes. Put the end of the sling through the swivel so that there are four of them on either side and fold it over. The flesh side of the leather will be touching, with the skin side out.

The fourth step is to thread one of the thongs through the outermost holes so that it passes through both layers of leather. Start from the outside and pull the thong through so it creates two even length pieces that hang out on the inside.

Step five is to cross the ends of the thong and thread them back out to the front side of the sling by passing them through the remaining holes. |

The sixth step is to tighten up the thong from the outside so the leather strap that is the sling itself will take the weight of the musket when slung and not just the thongs. Don't tighten it too much because in a moment you will need to tuck the loose ends of the thong under the little loop you created when you first began to thread the thong back in step four.

The last step is to thread the loose ends of the thong back through the loop you created in step four. Smooth it all out so it holds the flap tight to the sling without puckering. Now that you've figured it out, go ahead and follow the same steps on the other end of the sling to attach it to the forward sling swivel. |
